Obituary of Donn William Campbell

Donn William Campbell, 90, was born in Washington D.C. on April 3, 1922. He moved to St. Petersburg in 1948. During his youth; Donn was a minor league baseball player and played softball locally. Donn served in the European Theater in the U.S. Army's First Division, "The Big Red One," during World War II where he was a POW. Donn later was awarded the Purple Heart for his injuries, and various other medals. Furthermore, Donn retired from the Veterans Administration. During the 1950s Donn had a short stint as a fishing boat captain. He had also written in the sports section for the Evening Independent. Overall, Donn was very sports oriented and loved his hobbies. He loved to go to Derby Lane, fish, golf, and bowl, where he was a member of the St. Petersburg "Bowlers Hall of Fame." Donn was predeceased by his first wife of 58 years, Katherine Noreen Campbell. He is also predeceased by his second wife, Roberta Campbell, of 4 years. Donn is survived by his devoted and cherished family. Daughter, Donna Rich; Son-in-law, Bill Rich; Grandchildren, Kimberly O'Dell and Scott Rich; Great Grand Children, Justin and Blake Field, Kaitlin O'Dell, Tiffany, Taryn, and Scotty Rich. Daughter, Sharon Prevatt; Son-in-law, Bob Prevatt; Grandchildren, Cindy Plummer, Bobby and Greg Prevatt; Great Grandchildren, Evelyn,Mikey,Brian and Caralyn Prevatt, Jacob and Kyra Plummer, and Keagan Prevatt. Funeral Ceremony with honors will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at 1:30 PM.
