Richard Desorcy

Obituary of Richard Jean Joseph Desorcy

Richard Jean Desorcy, 81, of Saint Petersburg, FL, passed away at home peacefully on February 15, 2024 .

He was born in Chicopee, Massachusetts June 23, 1942 to Jean and Ernestine Desorcy.

Dick attended Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL before joining the United States Air Force in 1961. He served in Vietnam and honorably discharged in 1965.

Dick is survived by his loving wife, Diane Robbins Desorcy of 58 years. His two children Sterling Jean Desorcy and Chantelle Marie Desorcy Boyle. His daughter-in-law Cheryl Desorcy and son-in-law Philip Boyle. His 5 grandchildren, Savannah Smith, Katie Desorcy, Sterling Desorcy, Hunter Boyle, and Ellie Desorcy. His 1 great grandchild, Reagan Smith. His brother Robert Desorcy, sister Barbara Tardif and many nieces and nephews.

For Dick, “Life is about the journey, not the destination.” In his earlier years, he raised his family in Plantation, FL, where he owned and operated a successful independent car dealership - 7 West Auto. He enjoyed many weekends in The Florida Keys with friends and family - boating, fishing and diving. He enjoyed traveling and hosting events. Many remember him for his Super Bowl parties, family reunions and role as Santa Claus at family Christmas Eve parties up until 2023.

Most called him Dick, others called him Papa Dick, Butch, or Tricky Dick to name a few. No matter what you called him, we all knew the same man, a man that always had smile on his face and offered up a warm embrace.

If there was someone to listen there was a story to be told, if there was a dance floor he was on it, and if there was a cheekie hut he was under it. Cheers to all the joy and happiness he brought to this world, may he forever rest in “Pair-a-dice”!
