Obituary of Martin Leon Zimmerman

Martin Leon Zimmerman, 86, of Trinity passed away on November 06, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Martin is survived by his wife of 60 years Judith Zimmerman, daughter Amy Myers, and son George Zimmerman (Valerie.) He was a proud grandfather to Kelsey, Erica, Sophia, and Jack.  Later in life he found great joy in being PopPop to great-grandson Declan Boslaugh.

Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Hartford, CT, Martin graduated from University of Connecticut in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves.   Shortly after graduating Martin was called up to active-duty service and served a year in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Wall crisis.   Martin ended his military career in 1972 as a Captain in the Army Reserves.  After college, Martin met and married Judith, and started a family in Connecticut, before moving to New Jersey in 1978.  In 2004 Martin and Judith retired to Trinity, where Martin worked for a while, and volunteered at the Mease Countryside Hospital as a tram driver.

Martin spent his working life as a salesman, which is not surprising considering how much he enjoyed talking to people.  He was a kind soul, and very easy to like.  He adored his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson, and never one to take himself too seriously, he loved to be silly and joke around.   He was a loving husband, and always said that Judith was the best thing that happened to him.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Leket Israel. (www.leket.org)
