How does one articulate a loss such as this. Carol embodies what a true friend is. She has been an integral part of many parts of my life and I will miss her very much. Sending you love, Kathy Gibbs

This type of memory is likely not exclusive to me... After years of mentorship and friendship, Carol invited me over to St. Pete Beach to enjoy cooking, conversation, vast networking, cooking, eating, cooking, eating, and conversation (in that order, likely). After doting on Holmes and Watson, a new friend appeared - Humperdinck - the pet egret? Peck peck peck at the sliding glass door; Carol ready to feed him..., bits of turkey dog? Bird eating bird? Why not?!
Stories like this are plenty in my memories of Carol. Because..., she was Carol! Artist, mentor, human, and always keen on inviting more people into her 'Rolodex.' This includes my partner in crime, Jada, who she welcomed under her expansive wings as a fellow family member. She has inspired both of us to be better in a Hendersonian sort of way. Always mind turning in order to figure out the pieces on how to make this world a better place whist cooking, conversing, eating, repeat.
Love and miss you old friend.

Truly saddened with this news. Carol was always generous with her time and ideas. After speaking in the Wrongful Conviction Panel for the IAFS conference in Hongkong in 2005 where I first met this woman overflowing with ideas and energy, Carol organized a lecture on science and the law at Stetson University in Florida in 2006. Conferences were always opportunities to catch up with her and 'pick her brains' (Seoul in ? and Auckland in 2016). In Auckland during a pretty challenging moment in my career, Carol gave me a copy of her book "The Future of Evidence" and wrote 'You are the future of evidence'- this pushed me up and over the hill more than she could ever know..... In 2019, I was meant to attend the AAFS meeting in Baltimore, where she received the AAFS Lifetime Achievement Award honoring her life's work of advocating for science and technology as integral contributors to the practice of law - but I did not make it to Baltimore. I was hoping to catch up with her in Anaheim in 2020, but she could not make it. I still have her Korean cat figurines which will now grace my shelf to remind me that I had been privileged to have seen at least part of the vision that Carol had in her life. Taos pusong pasasalamat....[A heartfelt thank you] from Cora and Jojo- Manila, Philippines

Carol's accomplishments and talents were many and varied, as were her friendships. We shared a love of justice, food and travel and I shall carry her memory with me in so many places and experiences. Carol was a warm, loving and generous friend and she was committed to giving of herself and to making a difference. Sending my deepest condolences to her family. I share your grief. Please accept the following as both a requiem and tribute to a truly good woman.

Watson, a lifelong companion of Carol's. If you knew Carol, you knew of Holmes and Watson.

I worked with Carol for many years, we often shared our love of cooking and gardening with each other. Many years ago I incorporated a part from both into my life. She gifted me a large number of clippings from her rosemary plant to cook with. There was far too much for me to use, so I rooted and planted parts of it in my yard. To this day, I have several "offspring" of her mother plant growing at numerous houses. I use parts of my personal plants several times a month when cooking. I think of her, her smile, and the large bag of twigs the day she brought them in every time I do. All my rosemary plants started blooming significantly recently. Now those subtle, yet exquisite flowers remind me of her beauty and kindness. She will be missed, but frequently thought of, and spoken about every time I cook and garden.

I had the pleasure of working with Professor Henderson at Stetson University College of Law. She was a person that respected everyone and had the best personality. She will be dearly missed.

Please accept my condolences. I sit here in disbelief and in grief. Carol was my professor 24 years ago. Then she became my mentor, friend and confidant. She has shared in every milestone of my adult life with me and she was there for me through it all. My family and I are missing her. Words cannot express the loss I feel. Kurt, "Smelly Cat" and I enjoyed so many laughs and pranks beginning in her evidence class and continuing until now. She called me her "mini me" since the day I played her at the Public Auction at Nova and nailed it and in so many ways we were. She was a kindred spirit to me and I hope she comes to watch over me now as she did in this life. There are too many memories to write here in this place. There are two that stick out...meeting my twin daughters and spending that weekend in St. Pete years ago where she helped me heal from the ending of my marriage. She forced me to come see her and knew, even though I didn't, how much we needed each other. Thank you for being one of my people. Even though you said how much you admired me, I admire you more. I will carry you in my heart always. Love You Girl...Joani

Carol Henderson was a wonderful professional, colleague and friend. Her work to raise awareness and knowledge in the criminal justice commuity was unequaled. Her contributions through the American Academy and the National Clearinghouse will continue to reap great benefits. As a friend, she was generous and caring. She always reached out to help in whatever way she could. She was a bright light to us all.
our condolences to Carol's family and other friends. She will be missed.

Carol's been a friend since.... She was a friend, mentor, muse, co-editor, friend, and guide. She could light a candle and curse darkness at the same time. Her gift to legal education and forensic science--because the latter is nowhere but for lawyers--was to bring the two together in new and exceptional ways. Hardly ever ended a phone call (inevitably long) without her saying "you know I love you," and it was easy to let her know the reciprocal was the case. Talking about cooking, law, and the million or two people who called her friend. She always had a song in her heart, and she sang it to a whole ton of us in different keys and modes. Can't say how I'll miss her, because it's a list to be written, just like the way all the memories I share with so many friends of her will eventually be reassembled into some approximation of Carol herself that we'll carry from here out.

Carol's infectious smile and great laugh were what caught my attention as a teenager. She was always so thoughtful and caring towards our family. She is missed and will be loved by all us. An imprint on ones heart stays. Rest in peace and rise in glory, friend.

My fond memories of all that was Carol would fill a library. She was a consummate teacher, visionary, and friend. Carol was dedicated to her career, and leaves behind an awesome legacy: the National Clearinghouse, her presidency of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and a Distinguished Fellow, and the multitude of books, chapters, papers, and articles. Carol's friendship was a treasure, and those she leaves behind are devastated. I send my condolences to her family, her acquaintanances, and her friends. Carol was a bright candle whose lovely flame was extinguished too soon.
